Sign Permits

It is illegal to erect, substantially modify, or relocate any sign in the City-Parish without first obtaining a sign permit. Once a sign permit has been issued, it is illegal to substantially modify the sign without the prior approval of the Building Official or to deviate from the terms and conditions of the permit and the City-Parish Unified Development Code. A written record of such approval is required to accompany the original permit application and to be maintained in the files of the Building Official. The changing of the advertising copy or message on signs that are specifically designed for the use of replaceable copy does not require a sign permit. For more information about which signs require permits, please contact the City-Parish Permit and Inspection Office at (225) 389-3105. To report an instance of a sign without a permit, or one that you suspect may have been erected without a permit, please contact 3-1-1; be prepared to state the specific location and other relevant information pertaining to the sign at issue.
